The Festival of SCENT at Keyneston Mill, 3rd-5th September 2021.

 A celebration of all things fragrant, with a myriad of different experiences that bring scent alive including immersive rooms, interactive exhibition spaces, free mini workshops and scented garden tours, and a range of food and drink offerings. Evenings filled with live Parisian Jazz, delicious French food and themed outdoor cinema.

Day Ticket includes talks, tours & demonstrations, mini-workshops, exhibitions & immersive experiences.

Arrival from 10am, wander around the botanical gardens and take alfresco morning coffee.

From 10.30am drop in to a variety of mini-workshops and demonstrations running through the day. Our creative workshops explore many aspects of the world of scent.  Our programme includes topic areas such as perfume, floristry, botanical cocktails and essential oils and includes:

These simple, hands-on workshops are aimed to give you a “taster” of the full programme of workshops that Keyneston Mill offers throughout the year. Learn how to make botanical inspired cocktails using a range of scented herbs and flowers and more.

From 11am Join a tours and talks to learn how plants are distilled into essential oil, with live working distillation and journey around the gardens dedicated to perfumery and scent.

There will be a range of food and drinks on offer, with delicious lunches available in The Scented Botanist Bistro (reservations essential) and flavoursome takeaways, plus ice creams, and coffees available throughout the day.

Explore the exhibitions; Nature, Art and Perfume. The relationship between scent, nature and art and how they inspire the creation of perfume. Spread across the estate, it includes the History of Perfume, and the Story of Parterre and Keyneston Mill. Artist Petra Dufkova showcases a selection of flowing watercolours, from flowers to fragrances and high fashion.  She has created illustrations for many luxury brands including Hermes, Vanity Fair and Ministry of Sound.

Between interactive workshops and scented tours we invite you to enjoy immersive experiences that bring scent alive. A collaboration with artists to create scented rooms that will change your perception of scent; from famous movies to idyllic gardens. Then visit The Scent Bar; where you can try different plants, ingredients, oils, drinks and perfumes; exploring scent in different ways.

The Healing Power of Plants – Aromatherapy (Saturday Only)

This session is for those who want to learn how to harness the power of plants and their essential oils to restore a sense of calm and balance and is led by qualified Clinical Practitioner, Shelley Baker. Her approach is to merge ancient wisdom and knowledge of plants, with modern science and research to understand how and why plant oils work, and how best to use them. This is an interactive session with a practical element, the emphasis being on self-help and learning how to use aromatherapy in a safe way.

Exploring Scent & Wellness

Wearing perfume can have a profound impact on your sense of wellbeing. Recognising what ingredients work for you is key. Come and try a range of oils, and learn how they are used in perfumery. Go home with a better understanding of how to choose your next favourite perfume.

A Scent for September – Blending Workshop

What scents conjure up a balmy late summer day to you? Come and sample a selection of beautiful essential oils and then using September as your inspiration, blend a basic fragrance to take home. Includes a 10ml bottle of your personal blend.

Make your own Diffuser

Create an elegant diffuser with a personal touch ready to use at home, using a selection of high quality essential oils. Includes your 50ml diffuser bottle with reeds to take home.

Create a Wild Scented Bouquet

During this session you will learn how to make a beautiful flat bouquet using predominantly seasonal flowers, foraged foliage from our estate and aromatic herbs. Guided by our florist, you will learn the principles of flower arranging using sustainable techniques.  You will also be encouraged to be adventurous in your floral design and enjoy the creative process.  At the end of the morning, you will take home your flat bouquet to enjoy at home or present as a gift to a friend or loved one.

Discover Botanical Cocktails

We are joined by Fordington Gin who will create a delicious selection of cocktails with a scented theme. Fordington Gin is created in Dorchester, Dorset and brings you a London Dry Gin with a taste that is gentle yet distinctive.

Yoga in the River Meadow – Hatha Yoga (Sunday Only)
Taking time out to look after ourselves is so important – and what could be more beneficial for our health and wellbeing than a Yoga & Meditation session in a beautiful garden setting. Hatha yoga is suitable for all abilities and the yoga poses, or asanas, help improve balance, flexibility, and strength. This is a varied and heartfelt. Hatha Yoga class with a blend of guided movement, controlled breathing, meditation and relaxation to leave you feeling calm, revitalised and ready to embrace the rest of your day.

*Our mini-workshops are offered on a drop-in, first-come, first serve basis, with varying class sizes. If a class is full you can always come to the next one, as they will run through the day. Some events will run simultaneously – please check the event schedule that will be released closer to the date.

Scented Garden Tours

A tour around the gardens dedicated to perfumery and scent. An opportunity to find out what makes Keyneston Mill and Parterre Fragrances so unique. The tour starts in the scented Collection Gardens which are divided into “compartments” representing the principal perfume “families” eg. Floral, Fougere (Fern), Spice and Citrus.  These gardens are colourful and fragrant, but also act as trial beds where we experiment with unusual plant varieties.  We shall be encouraging you to rub leaves and sniff!

A charming romantic comedy which takes us back in time to Paris in the 1920’s and the writers, artists and larger than life characters who inhabited the city’s bars & bistros.  Starring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, and Kathy Bates.  Very atmospheric, and a must for lovers of Paris.
