Can you distinguish the scent of lemon from lime?  Or jasmine from orange flower? Come and join Julia, co-founder of Parterre, for a fun interactive session where you will begin to ‘train your nose’ and hear some of the fascinating stories behind some of the world’s most iconic fragrances.
Throughout the day you will be able to see distillation taking place in our Open Lab, and talk to David, co-founder of Parterre or other members of our expert team about how we create high quality oils for our perfumes from our own natural ingredients.  Discover how we grow, harvest and distil the foliage, flowers, roots and seeds – from Botany to Bottle.
Dru Yoga is a graceful form of yoga, based on soft flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation; designed to be practised by people of all abilities, fitness levels and age groups. It can easily be dipped into or learnt in greater depth over time.  Come and join Dru Yoga instructor, Kirsty, for a FREE taster session…
As part of our Wellness programme, we are delighted to welcome Shelley Baker, who will be demonstrating how natural oils made from scented plants can help you recover from illness, or simply help you to unwind and re-energise your body and mind. Shelley is a clinical aromatherapist with over 20 years’ experience so comes with a wealth of knowledge.
Most children have a fantastic sense of smell and we have a range of family activities and children’s workshops during the day to really involve them – more information to follow!
Our bistro-café will be open for lunch – but please be sure to reserve a table well in advance! There will also be refreshments available during the day.
Artist and ceramicist, Jan Dagley, is working with Parterre Fragrances for her current project on synaesthesia (when one of our five senses simultaneously stimulates another sense).  Come and hear Jan, in discussion with Julia, talking about how our sense of smell can be represented visually in texture and colour.  She will be bringing examples of her work.
You can also meet jeweller, Grainne Reynolds, who makes beautiful pieces out of silver clay, using flowers, leaves and seeds.  Some of her work will be on show and she will explain how you can create your own pair of earrings or a necklace in a day at one of her workshops at Keyneston Mill.
Our horticulture team will be leading Scented Garden Tours during the day and will also be on hand to answer your burning questions relating to fragrant plants – and how to grow them.
If you would like some advice regarding how best to wear perfume, which scents are most likely to suit you or simply what to buy your loved one, speak to Shona in our shop.  She has a wealth of knowledge and will be able to point you in the right direction as well as tell you about discounts available just on Scent Event day! In addition to perfume, we also have room fragrances, books and a beautifully curated selection of gifts. And outside we have some potted plants and herbs just waiting to provide you with fragrance in your own garden all summer long.
A full programme of events for the day will follow shortly!
