The Gardens

The formal Collection Gardens have been inspired by architecture, garden design and paintings, from Renaissance Italy to contemporary artists.  Each compartment features plants from one of the principal perfume groups or “families”.  These gardens are planned not only to be beautiful and wonderfully scented, but also to be practical trial beds where unusual varieties are cultivated.

Padua

The first garden you will enter is the Padua Garden which features plants and flowers from the Floral Perfume Family.

Fougere

Fougère (French for “Fern”) is one of the most popular Perfume Families. Our garden represents this group of perfumes and includes some of the plants used in them.

Spice

This part of The Collection represents the colours of a spice market, and the block planted beds contain some of the ingredients associated with the Oriental Family of perfumes.

Parterre

Parterre is the name of our fragrance brand. Meaning “by” or “through the earth”, it is also a horticultural term referring to a formal garden of beds dissected by symmetrical paths. Note: due to lost time during lockdown, it has not been possible to maintain this garden, so it will be closed for 2020.

River Meadow

Bordered by willows, the meadow walk follows the bank of the River Stour. Kingfishers fly low above the water flashing their brilliant plumage. Swans, herons, and egrets are never far from the bank and occasionally you can see otters.

The Lost Orchard

Blossom filled in Spring, fruit laden in Autumn, this traditional 8-acre orchard has been
partially left to nature. In the far northern corner you will see our bee hives – the bees pollinate our crops and also produce delicious honey!
